Reliable Contacless Sensing of Fluids and Bulk Material
Capacitive level sensors for level measurement from EBE take over manifold tasks in high-volume products, industrial and medical applications. The sensor systems monitor filling and liquid levels, e.g. in
- Appliances, coffee machines and commercial kitchen equipment
- Production plants in water treatment and process technology as well as in industrial production automation
- Agricultural and construction machines
- Medical devices
Apart from continuously measuring level sensors, the product range also includes level measurement with discreet switching threshold by means of level resp. limit switches. The sensors are targeted and tailor-made for every customer.
Sensors for Rough Environments, Viscous Fluids and Bulk Material
The sensor development is based on the specific requirements and properties of the customer application; the basic algorithms developed for this purpose have been proven for years. The product development of EBE is based on its technologies capaTEC®, corTEC® and the ToF sensor technology. EBE sensors + motion develops level sensors specifically for level measurement under difficult conditions due to parasitic effects, the measurement of viscous liquids and the recognition of bulk materials.
Wide Range of EBE Level Sensors
Level sensors from EBE sensors + motion remain permanently stable with respect to temperature and humidity. They can hide and compensate fluid films, evolving biofilms and depositing condensate at the inner wall of tanks. Furthermore, the system is robust against parasitic capacities. If tank materials are non-conductive, the level sensor can be placed at the outside of the tank. In this case, the measurement is performed contactless through the wall. In case of plannable geometries, the electrodes can be integrated into the PCB at low cost. In devices with removable tanks, the presence detection of the tank is easily possible through a further housing wall and without additional metal surfaces or inserts. Due to a combination of the capacitive sensor with an inductive proximity sensor working in parallel on the circuit board, even greater variations with respect to the material thickness of the housing walls and air gaps can be compensated easily. In metal tanks, the level measurement can be performed by rod probes in the medium.
ToF Sensor Technology for granulates and bulk materials
In case of level measurement for granulates, bulk materials or other media such as brines or ice cubes, 2D or 3D ToF sensors can be applied. ToF sensors use light sources with wavelengths outside the visible range, thus practically excluding disturbances by artificial light or sunlight completely. Depending on the requirement, it is possible to select from a variety of suitable sensor categories. These differ in terms of illumination angle, maximum measuring distance and performance up to CCD arrays.
Development of Level Sensors for Individual Customer Projects
The sensor geometry can be perfectly adapted to the installation space available. The assembly and planning of high-volume production are closely coordinated with the design department of the customer. As the preconditions vary in each project, the sensor is individually adapted for optimum performance. When developing an individual level sensor, the design of the electrodes is a decisive factor. By means of 3D field simulation it is possible to optimize and calculate them in advance for the operating and ambient conditions. As the electric measurement field of the level sensor also permeates the tank materials, the latter become an integral part of the sensor system. EBE sensors + motion also realizes the interfaces of the sensor, connectors and the type of signal output precisely according to customers’ requirements. In this way, the level sensors can be integrated into existing environments quickly and easily without redesigning the device.
